The Dutch yacht builder Oceanco has put its trust in the services of List General Contractor (List GC): The specialists from Austria were responsible for the outfitting of superyacht MY DAR.
It’s no secret that art stems from expertise. And time and again, List GC, the internationally renowned outfitter of luxury yachts based in Bad Erlach in Lower Austria, has demonstrated just how much expertise it possesses in terms of craftsmanship and engineering. Their most recent opportunity to do so came in the form of MY DAR: A 90-metre long luxury motor yacht that was delivered by Oceanco in July 2018 and is currently one of the 200 largest yachts in the world.
List GC was contracted to fit out the entire crew quarters and the luxury areas in the owner and guest quarters. The company brought these exquisite interiors to life with extravagant fittings for the salon, lounge and bedrooms as well as the bathrooms and dressing room, for example. The project has been successfully completed within a period of less than two years.
The interior design was created by Valentina Zannier, chief interior designer from Novulari Lenard, an internationally successful yacht design studio near Venice that is known for its elegant Italian style. For the MY DAR, the studio has drawn upon a broad mix of materials and elements inspired by nature: Stone, mussels, textiles, leather, metal, gold leaf and glass, hand-painted synthetic glass with floral motifs and hand-painted wall coverings are all hallmarks of the yacht’s interior design. A range of finely worked materials have been incorporated individually or in combination with one another, resulting in a classical yet contemporary ensemble that leaves an elegant and elaborate impression. To realise a design of this kind, fine coordination, maximum precision and well-founded expertise in craftsmanship are required – making it the perfect project for List GC.

What particular features define the interior of the MY DAR? The highly diverse combination of materials included could be considered the greatest challenge in this respect. Originating from all over the world, these materials needed to be supplied in sufficient quantity and quality to then be selected, refined and combined accordingly. The project team from List GC took care of the technical implementation of the designs, worked out how best to combine the various materials, challenged the various suppliers, coordinated production, and organised the entire process all the way through to on-site installation. Through the coordinated work of the teams, the bespoke details came to life in the final design. A great deal of coordination was required, which in turn called for a sophisticated workflow.
Thanks to this meticulous coordination, walls and furnishings with ornate glass surfaces and palladium were able to take shape in the dressing room of the yacht owner. A delicate floral pattern was applied by hand in the verre églomisé technique in a process that lasted several months. The corridor walls are adorned with oak trees, which were diligently sculpted from plaster using a special spatula technique and then painted by hand. An interplay of light and shadow was incorporated into the surface, resulting in a 3D effect that gives a certain depth to the space.

In the crew area, by contrast, the technology and equipment for operating and controlling the luxury yacht has priority. The complexity here results from the compact nature of the areas to be fitted. Every single bit of free space in the 89 rooms had to be used as storage space to accommodate all the necessary equipment alongside the bedrooms, bathrooms, escape routes and numerous other features. One particular feature of this collaborative project with Oceanco was the high quality requirements for the crew quarters, which needed to be of the same quality as that expected of the luxury areas. This is just another way in which real wood veneer and embroidered leather were incorporated into the interior design of the MY DAR.
The MY DAR was presented to the public last September at the Monaco Yacht Show. Since it´s delivery DAR has won the Judges´ Commendation Award for Best Technical Achievement at the Boat International Design & Innovation Awards 2019 as well as both Best Exterior Design and Finest New Superyacht Award at the Monaco Yacht Show 2018.
